FITNESS WEEK CAMPAIGN

REPRESENTATIVE MEETING COMMITTEE FORMED A meeting of representatives of the Borough Council and local sports bodies interested! in organising a fitness week (Campaign, was held in the Parish Hall last night. The Mayor, Air., G. S. Aloody, occupied the , chair. Others present were: Messrs. F. W. Bridger, A. G. Stevenson, AY. H. Briggs (Borough Council), F. J. Short (Golf Club), C. Alorris (Boxing Assn.), B. Anderson, G. AY. Button (Athletic Club), C. Hewlett (Life Saving Club), Al. Lo Pine (Cricket Assn.), A. S. de Montalk (School), AV. T. Burrett (Rugby Union), Airs. A. S. de Alontalk (Basketball Assn.), Mrs. A. C. Hampton and Airs. R. O’Sullivan (Health and Beauty Club). Circular letters from the Aliuister of Internal Affairs enclosing a proposed programme for the week from 18th. to 25th. February, inclusive, was read by Air. AY. H. Briggs, who was appointed secretary for the meeting. Al,r. Burrett considered the idea of tlie week a good one and suggested the setting up of a committee representative of the varous bodies. Air. Short said that it might be possible to arrange the opening of the aerodrome during the week. Airs, de Alontalk suggested that a swimming carnival organised by the Surf Club be held. Air. cie Alontalk stated that the school would co-operate in any arrangements. He thought the campaign was to assist those who took little interest in sport. Air. de Alontalk also suggested that a monster procession be held: on the opening day. Air. Bridger mentioned that the baud intruments would be available. Air. Morris thought the programme as set out was beyond-, Opotiki and. suggested confining the’: activities to Saturday and also AYednesday which could be declared a holiday. A suggestion that the Hunt Club and Fire Brigade be asked' to join in the procession was made by Airs. Hampton. It was decided to set up a. committee representative" of various bodies present to arrange a programme. J he committee will meet next ihursday night at- 7.30.
