FLY IX G- FOR 3D A MILE SYDNEY, Dec. s.—Mr. W. Shrimpton, a representative of the Fairchild factory in the United States, has arrived at Kingsford Smith Aerodrome from Melbourne in a Fairchild 21 K aircraft on a demonstration flight, which will include all capitalcities. It is claimed that the new plane can be flown for 3d a mile, including maintenance, providing it flies a reasonable number of hours each year. The new machine, which is of the single-engine type, is said to have a maximum speed of 150 miles an hour, and cruising speeds of 127 miles an hour at sea level, and 135 miles an hour at 8000 ft. It is lifted with* a 165 horse-power Ranger engine, and has a range of 560 miles. It is equipped with dual controls and blind-flying instruments. Its fuselage is of tubular steel, and its valves require attention only every 400 hours.
