Wireless Interference

OVER WIDE. AREA A DIFFICULT SEARCH For about a week the hundreds of wireless sets in the Opotiki district have been of little use to owners, on account of a loud grating or rasping, noise. Many residents thought tlieir sets were put of order and wireless dealers have been greatly inconvenienced by many requests to have suspected trouble* in sots put in order, when actually there lias been nothing wrong with the receiving sets. After a great deal ol trouble the locality of the interference has -been located at Paorata. ridge but the actual spot has not been traced. The lead of current- lias not been a. serious, one as far as the Power Board is concerned hut unfortunately the current leakage has been “broadcasting” over -a -very wide area, complaints having been received from as far as 0maio, where battery sets are in use. The source of the trouble would have been quickly found had heavy rain fallen, when a blow-out would have occurred at the point of leakage. The point of leakage could have also been found easily had a departmental inspector visited the districtwith the necessary instruments for locating sources of interference. Now that the actual locality in which the leakage is occurring lias been found it is hoped that- tlieJeakage will he quickly repaired.

Residents have found that the on|ly* station which has given reasonable results since the trouble developed, lias been.the I.YA station at Auckland. This station lias, been better in thedaytime than at night, hut even in the daytime the noise from the interference has been most annoying to-set-owners. Practically all other stations have been “blotted out” by a loud roar when dialed.
