OXEYE DAISY GROWTH
DANGER TO DISTRICTS SETTLER’S WARNING DISCUSSION IN GISBORNE. The oxeye daisy which has greatly increased, in the borough this year and. which is becoming so unsightly on the streets and in paddocks, is alski causing concern in Poverty Elay, as the following, which appeared in Wednesday's issue, of the P.B. Herald shows “The main roads and stock enclosures are becoming infested witii the weed, which, in time, destroys all other vegetation,” wrote Mr. J. C. Field, Homobush, to the Cook County Council to-day, when pointing to the rapid spread of oxeve daisy.
“I am suici many of our farmers, who own machines would co-operate with the coulicil in cutting it,” lie added. <( lf allowed to, spread, besides, damaging our pasture, it will give visitors coming to our district a verybad impression.” The chairman, Cr. AY. G. Sherratt,. said that the owners of land were responsible for keeping down noxious, weeds to the centre of the read. The daisy \\;as not at present a noxious, weed, and it was a. matter for the council to make a decision on the matter.
Or. C. Tictjen stated that the 'saleyards were an eyesore, and he urged that the communication should: he passed on to the Stockbrokers’ Association.’ The chairman : The Stockbrokers’ Association is the principal offender. The county clerk, Air. F'. T. Robinson. pointed out that the oxeye daisy was on the second schedule of the Noxious AA'eeds Act, and its declaration as a noxious weed would he easy. The chairman: It is too late this season. The motion to: forward the letter to the Stockbrokers’ Association was carried.
