HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
MONTHLY DISPLAY
The usual monthly display and lecture evening of the Opotiki Horticultural Society was held in the Parish Hall last Tuesday evening and a large attendance of members and friends was present. The high standard of the exhibits was maintained and some very fine blooms were to be seen. The most outstanding exhibit was given to Mirs. W 7. Sydenham’s bowl of beautiful gladioli spikes. Among the many entries worthy of mention were other fine exhibits of gladioli, perennial phlox, bawl of pom-pom dahlias, zinnias, in the specimen section, begonias, dahlias, plate of strawberries andi some fine vegetables of different kinds. A discussion on staging exhibits for show purposes took place and a paper on hydrangea culture by Mrs. Parkinson was read. Next month the society intends to hold its second quarterly show on Tuesday-, 14th. and this should prove an even greater success than the previous one.
