NEW GARAGE OPENED

! OPOTIKI ENTERPRISE A very representative gathering attended the official opening of Messrs. M. O. Kidd’s new premises, situated, at the corner of Church and Bridge Streets. Mr. Mi. 0. Kidd opened proceedings by extending a cordial welcome to all present and he then called upon the Mayor, Mr. G. S. Moody, to officially! open the garage. In his opening remarks, the Mayor congratulated Messrs. Mi. O. Kidd Ltd. for their enterprise in building such fine premises in Opotiki, showing their confidence in the future of the town and district. Confidence in the future of the motor business was shown when men came forward and spent such a lot of money, as had been done by the firm. Opotiki was very fortunate in regard to efficient motor garages which catered for all the requirements of motorists. Credit was due to tliei builder, Mr. Wylde, as every convenience had been attended to, and he ventured to say there was not a, more convenient garage and service station in the Bay of Plenty. He feltsure that added business would fully recompense Messrs. M. 0. Kidd Ltd. for tlieir investment. He- had great •pleasure in declaring the garage officially opened. As Mr. Moody concluded: hi» remarks the main door of the garage was slowly raised amid applause. During his speech, the Mayor, read the following telegram from the New Zealand Ford Mo-tor Co.: “Kidd, Opotiki. Congratulations oil latest evidence of progress. All join in sending, best wishes for successful opening today and for bigger, brighter, better business for 1939”.

Mr. Moody then called upon Mr. Wright, -chairman of directors of Messrs. M. 0. Kidd Ltd., to address the gathering. Mr. Wright thanked Mir. Moody for his remarks and said that all would! agree that the new premises had greatly improved the street corner. Mr. Wright invited those present toi inspect- the premises and partake of refreshments. An inspection of the buildings, which cover a large area, showed that the lay-out had been well planned, a feature being the splendid lighting arrangements, giving an even light, with freedom of shadow. Concrete lias been laid over practically the whole of the section.- A special paintshop with first-class- ventilation has been bunt at the north-eastern end of the garage. The approaches to the bowsters and greasing equipment has been well laid-out and with the setting hack of the corner of the building has greatly improved visibility at the corner.
