OMARUMUTU FAREWELL PRESENTATION TO TEACHER A very enjoyable and successful function took place at .Omarumutu on Wednesday afternoon, when a large number of parents „.,and friends assembled to express tl|§i£ good wishes to Miss D. A programme of %oj|ion\ t tongs, folk dances, and dramatic’work was then enjoyed by the !! At, the conclusion of this, Mr. Baker, chairman of the school committee, presented school-leaving £er.tifieates to Form II pupils: Alice. Huil.fpiy f Hema Kelly, Edith Williams, Jerry Kawlia, Ted Hayes, Fred Papuni. %He expressed gratification at the'lfacit that live of tho pupils were successful in gaining scholarships at JVtatfri sfeeqpclary colleges. Mr. JiakeE* then spoke very highly of Miss Barrett's work for sevoral years among the‘junior Maori children and tHc>“-....parents’ appreciation and host wishes. ‘ He then presented Mifig Burrett, on hbhalf of the parents, with a handsome fireside set of kerb seats and fire screen; Mr. McLaughlin, headmaster, then spoke on hehalf of the st-aff, expressing regret at losing so enthusiastic a teacher and assured Miss Burrett that she would-* not he forgotten by either ebildren| or teachers. He then presented her tyith-a, crystal limit dish from tho staft'A A dinner waggon, made by the senior hoys, was also given to Miss Burrett pupils. Miss Burrett suitably replied! thanking everyone both for the gifts which she wiudd idwdys r .:,value and also for the kind expressions of esteem and the good-*wishes tendered: to her. Her association with Oinarumutu had alwavs been a happy one. • Tow served by the ladies a pleasing afternoon to a C.lose.
farewell to teacher FUNCTION AT OTA BA On Manilas' last a pleasant little ceremony took place in the Otara Had when parents and children who have attended the now-consolidated Otara school, met to say farewell to Mrs. Patterson who has been in charge of the school lor the past seven years. In calling on Mrs. Patterson to accept a handsome travelling rug. Mr. C. Black spoke of the goodwork donci by the teacher lor the children who have been well taught and kindly and impartially treated. A beautiful bouquet was presented to the teacher by little John Henderson. Mrs. Patterson suitably replied and spoke a few words to the children _ especially. A bountiful supper was served bv the ladies committee.
