REST AND PLUNKET ROOMS
MEETING OF COMMITTEE GR ANT TO BEi APPLIED FOR A meeting of the Rest- and Plunk-ot-Koom Committee was held last night- in the Borough Council Chambers. Noi representatives of the Opotiki County Council were present. The Mayor, Mr. G. S'. Moody, presided. Apologies for absence were received from a number of ladies'. After the plans had been, shown to the ladies present. Mrs. Martin said, she would show the plans at a meeting of ladies to be held in the near future. The question‘of financing the scheme was discussed and it was stated that' there was a chance of securing a subsidy from the Government, as the building could be. erected a.s a centennial memorial, it- was considered that in the- event of the Minister agreeing to a £ for £ subsidy,-that the balance required could be easily raised in the district by public subscription. The plans were favourably- commented om by all present, in the event- of suggestions being made by the*' ladies interested, it was stated that alterations could be incorporated in the proposed building. It was' decided to apply to the -Minister for a subsidy, and to hold a further meeting on a suitable date.
