. DRAMA FESTIVAL FUNCTION AT TANEATUA The draam festival organised by the Eastern Bay of TJeqty x’ ederation of Women's Institutes took place in the ’J iuieatua Hall recently, when Wiiimaua, Yvliakatane, OtaKiri, Ectgecumbe and Matata Institutes each presented a one-act play. The Federation president, Mrs EP. Woolfiold, welcomed the visitors, and also thanked the adjudicator, Mrs T. Connor, of Tauranga, for coming along again as judge; The president then presented a shoulder spray to each of the producers of each play, and a posy of violets to Mrs Connor. The winning play was presented by the Waimana Institute, is' being “March Wedding”. -Mrs Connor, in her remarks after the play, said the Waimana players had reached the top of the ladder, and the bouquet of the day went to- Mrs J. D. Wardlaw. the “Bride” in the play. Whakatano was placed second with “Dresden China”, aiid was very well presented.
Edgeeumbe institute gave a creditable performance, with “Fetters”, which was placed third. Otakiri and Matata presented “A Plume of Feathers”, and “Go To Jericho” respectively and were unfortunate not to have gained a place as their work was of a high standard. At the conclusion ,of the day, the president thanked all who had helped in any, way at all to make the festival the success it was.
