BULB CULTURE

POSSIBLE N.Z. INDUSTRY Those who were developing hybrids in the Dominion were .doing a work that would place New Zealand ahead of tlie rest of the world, declared Mrs Knox Gilmer, president of the Wellington Horticultural Society, in opening the Wanganui Society’s show. Before many years liad elapsed, New Zealand blooms would be attracting the attention of horticulturists all over the world, said Mrs Gilmer- She stressed the demand overseas for various types of bulbs which could bo grown successfully in. the Dominion for export. The climate in NeW Zealand was ideal and the soil satisfactory, and bulb-growing could be made a profitable and important industry if horticulturists were given encouragement. New Zealand gladioli were superior to any she had seen in any other part of the world, and the standard of other bulbs was correspondingly high.
