OTARA BIRTHDAY A Birthday AJjeeting of the Otara' Women’s Institute was held in the Otara Hall on Tuesday. ! Airs, McCallion presided over a good attendance of members and welcomed: members of sister institutes and representatives of other women’s organisations. The Institute Song and Women’s Creed were followed by a brief business session. Quartettes were pleasingly sung by Mesdames Brown, Gault, Steele and Vanstone and then members of the Drama Circle very capably gave the playredding. “Be Sure your sex will find you”- A guessing competition arranged by Airs Brown was won by Aliss." Jean Alurray and a drawing competition was won by Miss Helen Alorice. Afternoon tea was kindly supplied and served by Alcsdaines Stewart, Jones, J. and W. Young, assisted by several institute members. In a prominent position was a beautiful birthday cake made by Airs AlcCallion and hearing 6 candles which were lit by Mrs Alorice, the institute’s first president. Airs Woolfield, the president of the Bay of Plenty Federation was asked to cut the cake. Shoulder sprays were presented to Airs AlcCallion and Airs Brown and mention made of their good work during the year. The final item of an enjoyable programme was a mime “The Camptown Races” when great amusement was caused by the prancings of sliapely-leggcd but quaint-headed horses; also a strange type of cow. Thanks and good wishes were expressed by Ah's Woolfield, All's Hollard. All's Alartin. Alls Noble, Airs AY. Jeffrey, All's Fisher and Airs Fleming, and the meeting closed with tile National Anthem.
