Mr George Brown, Puha, carried 11 sows ill his Wainiauu Piggery situated on liis father’s farm, and alter keeping careful records he is able to say that his pig cheques equalled a return of 2Jd per lb. on bntterfat produced on the farm* which carries 82cows on an area oi 112 acres. 1 he pork soli averaged 721 b. per acre and 981 b per cow. One sow was carried for c\ery eight cowsIn all, 157 pigs were weaned from 19 litters. Of them- 118 were sent to ♦th<* Pig Marketing Association as porkers on consignment, while 10 from the Puha Pig Club's sow were balloted for among members. This sow had 'two litters, and both are included ameng the total number given. Ibis sow’s litters produced 1.5 weaners, the fire remaining after the ballot being the property oi the custodian, in which capacity Mr Drown secured 15s per pig on the 10 balloted lor. a total of .-£7 10 s. ' Owing to the last three litters being late. 27 pigs had to he carried forward into the present season, and two were kept for sows.
