OPOTIKI MONTHLY MEET! MG

The monthly meeting of the above was held on Saturday evening, September iGth., the programme on tins occasion being supplied by lnemoers 01 the Woodlands Institute. Proceedings were opened with the singing of cue Institute Song and the reading.of tne Greed.

Business was dealt with and an acknowledgment received of a donation that had been forwarded to the Leper Station for Christmas cheer.

Before Airs Fisher, president, vacated the chair, she gave a report of tne coiiterenee field at Wellington, where she attended as a delegate. The report was listened to with-much interest. and gave mem hers a vivid description of the huge meeting of women, there being 156<J women present. Delegates numbering 602 were there from all parts,pf the Dominion, showing the widespread interest- in the great movement.

On taking the chair, Airs Noble, "Woodlands president, announced the Roll Call: “The best- value for a penny.” This was well responded to. A waitzing competition then took place, the winners being Airs Evershed and Aliss White. Aliss Rostock very cleverly demonstrated tno art of wteath limiting, and kept the members keenly interested throughout. Tile wreath was afterwards laid cm the grave of one of the institutes" most energetic and interested early workers- A ‘Brain tag’ competition arranged by Airs -McGregor was won by Airs Beattie. Then followed another demonstration on the making of wool rugs by Airs Hollard. Several rugs were on view and brought forth much admiration. The last item was a ‘Bail’ game, which caused a. deal -of merriment.

Ll the daffodil competition* -Mrs Beattie secured first- and. second places, w’hiie in the competition lor anemones Mil’s Jeffery came first and Airs Fisher second. A competition in the needlework section for ’something costing Ud or loss was won by All’s Fox with two crochet d'oyleys. Airs Beattie secured second place with two coat hangers. The hostesses for the evening were - Alls Hampton, Airs Gault, Airs Alail, and Al iss Ferguson. A - pleasant evening terminated with the singing of the National Anthem. •
