THE WAINUI ROAD

QUESTION OF RAISING The question of raising the AYainui Road was again discussed at the monthly meeting of the Opotiki Council, to-day, when a letter was received from M'r Ron ay no. District 'Engineer. on. the subject. The letter asked for information concerning the number of.'times the road had been submerged by high tide and the amount of daily traffic. The erection of white posts to guide traffic when the road was flooded was ‘also suggested. Mr Upton supplied figures of a tally taken over 7 days showing the average daily traffic. Mr Burke said that a further 100 yards of road had been washed by the tide which goes over the road every spring tide for three or four days.

It was decided to supply the District Engineer with the information, stating that many people prefer to go round the long way instead of traversing the rough road.
