NATIONAL PARTY DANCE On Saturday last a very successful dance was held in the Ormond Hall by the Ormond branch of the National Party. Alany people were present, visitors coming from Opotiki to represent the electoral committee. Air \V. TERRITORY Aj.S’ ANNUAL DANCE I*REo'KiNTAT lOX OF TROPHIES Decorations of flags, machine-guns and rifles created an impressive atmosphere at the annual dance of the Opotiki Territorials which was held in the Lyric Hall on Wednesday night. This function is regarded as one of the most successful events of the year and is always eagerly anticipated by all, * who were in no way disappointed this year. There was a very large attendance, which included many visitors. A particularly happy evening was ' spent in dancing to the music supplied by the Kit Kat Orchestra, with extras played by .Mrs F. J- -Hennett. • Sergeant E. Parkinson acted as <M.C. of a well-chosen programme with dances arranged in <fuick succession, a feature which was largely responsible for the very jolly evening which was enjoyed. As always the- distribution of streamers and confetti created a happy atmosphere and novelty dances were enthusiastically contested, the winners being Miss Jean Cochrane and Mir \\ alker, Miss I).. Keen (Napier), and Mr T. O’Sullivan and

Miss F'. Reece and Mr N. Handricks. During the evening Lieut. J. Mac- (. Kay introduced the visiting officers, i Major Le Leivrc, of Edgecumbe and

Moody, extended a welcome to the visiting officers after which trophies and cups won throughout.the year were presented by Major Le Leivrc, as follows:—The Hume Oup for the smartest section of the Bay of Plenty Platoon was won by Opotiki. Lance-Corporal J. H. n Bridge and Private B. H. Parkinson

who were awarded equal points in the competition for the Moody Cup presented to - the smartest soldier in the Opotiki Platoon, were presented with miniature cups and will each hold the Aloody Cup for six months. It! is interesting and :praisewortliy tp note that both successful competitors received 100 per cent, marks in tills competition.

Cheers greeted the presentation of the cups and congratulations wore extended by the visiting officers and Air G. S. Aloody.

A dainty liomo made supper was served by the' ladies and dancing nas resumed until the early hours.

Thompson and the travelling flag prize was won by ALr S. Alaxwell. A dainty home-made supper was served after which Air A. E.
