Miss Daplme Grant, of Auckland, is spending a holiday in Opotiki with her parents, Mr and ill's F. K. Grant, Woodlands. Gosling, while visiting Opotiki. * #■***#* Miss Gwen Guide, of Auckland, is spending a holiday with her mother, Mrs G. T. Guide. CROQUET CILUB AFTERNOON The members and friends of the Citizens’ Croquet Club spent a pleasant social afternoon at Mrs 1. Rusden’s home on Wednesday last. Competitive games were indulged in, the winners being Mrs Aladdren senr., Mrs Maddren jnr., and Mrs H. Parkinson. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostess, Mrs Tabb.

ST. MARY’S DANCE A jolly evening of dancing was enjoyed by those who attended the dance, organised by. the social committee of St. Mary’s Church. • The Junction was held in the Lyric Hall on Wednesday night. A bright programme ot' popular numbers was played by the Melody Musters’ Orchestra, Mr K. •de Montalk obliging with an extra. The distribution of streamers and confetti added to the fun while novelty dances created: interest-, the successful dancers being Miss T. Irwin and Air R. Anderson and Miss J. Jessop and Air T, Clark. Air T. Hickey ably carried out the duties of AI.C. * A dainty supper was appreciated and during an interval, Al'iss AX. Hudson and Air C. LABOUR PARTY CARD EVENING Another of a series of successful card-evenings, organised by the Opotiki Branch of the Labour Party, was held on Wednesday at the residence of Air and Airs T. Palmer who kindly put tlieir home at the disposal of the committee. {

Flag 500 was enjoyed by the large number present. Air T. Bodman acting as M.C. Successful players were Mrs J. O’Sullivan junr., Mrs Lovell, Mr A. Sjunloy and Mr T. Bodman, consolation prizes going to Mrs K. Newth, Mrs H. Newth, Mr Humble junr., and Mr ,J. Williams. The winner of the travelling prize was Mr R. Barton. Supper was served, after which a hearty, vote of thanks to Mi' and Mrs Palmer for their hospitality terminated a very pleasant evening. Among the ladies present were: Mrs T. Palmer, Mrs G. Lysaglit.
