ART GALLERY BLAZE
DISASTER AVERTED
PARIS, June 22.—What might easily have been the greatest disaster in. the history of art was averted yesterday evening by the prompt and energetic effects of the Paris Eire Department in quickly subduing a blaze that broke out on the roof of tho Louvro Art Museum. The fire started in a scaffolding just over the worldfamous Grande Galerie which houses, one of the most precious collections of paintings ever assembled in one room. The flames were, extinguished before they could touch any of the priceless Van 'Dyck’s, - Rubens and Rembrandts tliat hung just below the section of the room that was ablaze and the museum ..directors, asserted last night that- tlie smoke and pouring water had done no damage to any < f them.
