FEW JOBS OFFERING
POSITION ]N AUSTRALIA
YOUNG MAN’S EXPERIENCE
The difficulties of a youiig man in search of a position in Australia were outlined in a letter received recently from Mr IS. J. Clirisp, soiy.qf Mr and Ahs James Ciirisp;' Gisborne. M>* Chrisp left Gisbonie recently with tiid intention of working his way around the-world and is now stationed in. Adelaide in the employ of a forestry company with New Zealand interests.
During his first week in Sydney lie confined himself to seeing the .sights of the city and tho following week lie •spent on the wharves looking for a position on a vessel that would carry him to America or another overseas port. Despite his many inquiries, he learned that it was one of the worst times he could have, chosen for his search. Many ships wore tied up on account of the few passengers travelling. The Gisborne hoy then started his inquiries in the city and after scanning the newspapers and making several calls on business firms he became acquainted with another man in search of employment, who told him lie had. applied for work with a forestry company, but had been declined. A day or two later Mr Clirisp made himself known to tho business manager of tho company and the way was opened up for him as soon as lie said he was a New Zealander. He did. not know atthe time that he had walked into the head office of a large New Zealand company.
After a week’s training lie was sent to his present position at Adelaide, notwithstanding the fact that ether young men had' been working on the course longer than he had been.
