Air and Mrs K. O. Old, of Edgecumbe, were visitors to Opotiki yesterday. * # * * «■ # * Mr and Mrs H. T. Lammas and their daughter left to-day to spend a fortnight’s holiday in Auckland. Mr L. E. 11 ewe, inspector of the Union Bank of Australia, is visiting Opotiki in the course of inspection of the various branches. WAIMANA NEWS NATIONAL PARTY CARD EVENING Another of the series of the successful card evenings, organised by the ladies’ committee of the WaimanaNukuhou .Branch of the National Party, was held at the residence of Flag 500 was played and enjoyed by all, the winners being Mrs Wool field. PREFECTS’ ANNUAL DANCE OUTSTANDING Sl i t ESS A charmingly decorated hall welcomed those who attended the annual Prefects’ Daiice which was held last night. All arrangements for the function were in the hands of the prefects on whom is reflected great credit for the outstanding success which resulted. Members of committees with considerable experience in organising social functions realise the work and responsibility entailed and the manner in which this youthful committee conducted the dance is really worthy of comment. Greenery and colourful streamers decorated the hall, while replicas of the school badge and a huge prefects’ badge adorned the walls. The school motto held a prominent position. There was a very large attendance and the decorations were a fitting background for the many beautiful frocks worn by the dancers. Guests were given a warm welcome by the girl prefects wli 0 acted: as hostesses and met the guests upon arrival. The boy prefects acted a.s M.C’.’s and carried out numerous duties, and a delicious supper Was served by the girls. The Melody Masters’ Orchestra supplied the music, extras being played by Air E. Archer and Air N. Elliot. Novelty dances were won by Aliss AT. Maxwell and Air L. Abbot ,Aliss J. AleCrcgor and Air I). Caves.
Dancing was continued until after midnight, a thoroughly happy time having l»een spent hy all, and the organisers feeling justly proud of tin} success of the function. Among those present were: —

LABOUR PARTY CARD EVENING
Despite inclement weather conditions, the card-evening held at the residence of Mr and Airs G. Lysaght, under the auspices of tlie Labour Party on :Wednesday night, proved to be a great success.
A most enjoyable time was spent by the large number present, the lucky players being Airs J. Williams, Mrs S. Maxwell, Air D. C. Forbes and Mr H. Newtli, The consolation prizes went to Airs H. Lammas, Alts 3. E. Webb, Air Ji Williams and Air P. Rockett, and Airs W. Burton was the winner of the travelling prize. Air T. Bodman acted, as AI.C. and after supper had been served, he proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Air and Mrs Lysaght for their hospitality, this being carried in the usual way.
