FASTEST ROAD RACE
The Grand Prix of Tripoli, in North Africa, is generally considered to he the fastest road race m the world, because of the easy nature of the bends and the fact, that it is an event which attracts the best racing cars in the world.
This year’s event was held on May 15, and was won by Hermann Lang in a, Mercedes Benz, his team mates, von Braucmtsch and Caracciola, finishing second and third. Lang’s average speed was 127.5 .miles' an hour, compared with the winner’s average of 134.4' miles an hour last year. The difference is accounted for by the fact that competing cars tin's year were built to the now international formula, which restricts engine size, precisely with the object- of reducing racing car sped. It is believed, however, in informed circles that the speed attained in this race, one of the first to be run under the new, formula, is still far too high, and that, as the season progresses and the new cars improve, they will be just as fast as the old ones. During the race, Siena, in an Alfe Romeo, was killed, and from injuries received in another accident. Farina, who drove a similar car, lated died in hospital.
