LICENSING NECESSARY
ALL FARMERS’ TRUCKS
MORE EFFECT 1 IVEI CONTROL
“To secure effective control of road transport, every truck on tin* road should be licensed” stated -Mr P. Skugluncl. No 2 Transport Licensing jAuthority, in an address to a meeting at New Plymouth recently. He felt that all trucks should be brought under the Transport Act. He did not infer that farmers’
trucks should involve a big fee. but the farmers should be able to obtain, a license from the Post Office when their vehicles were registered. Ihe cost ofj the license should he nominal, but by this means some discipline could be enforced 1 over the users carrying goods for their neighbours. 4 “Tho present system is unsatisfactory, for au offender has only to go into the box and State that he carried the goods without payment and the law is powerless, as was seen in a case at Palmerston North. Tile licensing of every truck would. 1 think, meet, the position.” stated Mr Skbglund.
