TINIROTO HAD 24} IN-
Rainfall tallies for July have been exceptionally high throughout the East Coast district, from Wairoa to Gape Runaway, and the greatest total so far reported is that of Tiniroto, where 24.25 in. was gauged. J his figure is almost twice that recorded in Gisborne. None of the many weather stations in the district lias recorded less than 12in. for the month, and. in fact, the lowest total, so far as is known, is that of To Karaka, with 12.’38in. Besides Tiniro-to there have been several stations that have exceeded 20in., including llaungarehu. inland from Tokomaru Bay, 21.92 in.; Waimata, 23.56 in.; and Pakihiroa, 23.47 in. Rain fell at Tiniroto on no less than 2(5 clays last month, a figure that has not been exceeded by any other station. The heaviest single day's reading was 4.66 in., while for the first seven months of the year there was a total of 74.01 in.
