Mr and Mrs A. L. Fetch are on holiday and are at present visiting Auckland. *w* # * Aliss K. Shalfoon and Mr N. Middleton, of Auckland, are spending a short holiday in Opotiki' with Mr and Mrs George Shalfoon, Woodlands. #*** + * * Mr B. L. Roberts, of Wellington, has commenced his duties with-the local staff of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd. TOATOA NEWS (F rom Our Own Correspondent.) A jolly little dance was held in the Toatoa Hall on Tuesday evening. Although it was such a stormy night and very few people turned out, those present had quite a pleasant time. Music was supplied by Mr R. Parlces, who drove out in spite of the inclement weather. The duties of AI.C. were carried out by Mr T. Stott and Mr F. Kearns. ' A dainty supper was served and dancing, continued till 12.30 a.m.

ROD AND GUN CLUB’S DANCE VERY GOOD ATTENDANCE in spite of the unfavourable weather which prevailed on Wednesday night, the attendance at the Opotiki Rod and Gun Club’s dance held in the Woodlands Hall, was not in any way affected, and the function proved exceptionally bright. A popular programme of music was supplied by the .Melody Masters’ Orchestra who were assisted by Mr AE-Dougall, and Mr E. Archer who obliged with extras. Novelty dances were popular, winners being Miss K. Jepbson and Mr J. Inskip. Miss T. Clark and Mr Clark. A ‘ dainty supper was served by the ladies and dancing was continued until the early hours. LABOUR PARTY CARD EVENING • HELD AT KUTARERE Another of tin; series of success lut card evenings, under the auspices of f the Kutarere Branch of the Labour Party, was held at t'he residence of .Mr and Airs D. C. Forbes, Kutarere. last night. There was the usual large attendance and a very happy evening was spent by all. The duties of AI.C. were in the capable hands of Air 1. Bedinan. Prizes were won by Mrs K. Newth, Airs H. Newth, Mr C. Pipe and Air Lammas. Consolation prizes were awarded to Airs Grey, Aliss J. Cochrane, Air Lees and Air M. Newtli, and Ahrs K. Newth was the winner of the travelling prize. At the conclusion of play, a dainty supper was served, after which, Allr Harrell, president) of the Kutarere Branch of the , Party, thanked all present for their attendance and also thanked Air and Airs Forbes for their hospitality. those present were:— Airs D. 0. GUIDE COMMITTEE BRIDGE PARTY The Girl Guide Committee held a very pleasant bridge party at the home of Mrs do Montalk yesterday. The large drawing room was decorated with bowls of yellow jasmine, daphne and Iceland poppies. Tlie first prize was won by Airs C. Gordon and Mrs Carter Bowles was awarded the consolation prize. As a result of the afternoon the Guide funds will be considerably augmented.
