RUGBY FOOTBALL

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE WEEKLY MEETING The following delegates were present at the weekly meeting of the management committee of the Opotilci Rugby Union: —Messrs G. Wood cchairman), A. Short, B. Black, T. Black, T. Hickey, C- Howard and E. Chapman. On the motion of the chairman, it was decided to rescind M;r N. Shalloon’s bar cm condition that lie plays for the club for which he had been allotted by the Union. The secretary was instructed to write to the Galatea Union advising that the Opotiki Sub-fJnicu regretted that a representative team would be unable toi travel to Galatea. It was resolved that the secretary write to the Whakatane Union in an endeavour to arrange a representative match for Saturday, 6th. August, and if possible to have the match played at Opotiki. It was also decided to try and arrange a junior representative match Avitli Whakatane ten be played as a curtain-raiser.

The secretary was asked to communicate with the Bay Secretary to ascertain the date fixed for the Shalloon Shield match, Opotiki v. Rotorua.

On the motion orf Mr Short, it >vas decided to advise Mr Davies that the Union was willing to fix a date for the proposed Veterans v. Ox>otiki representatives match.

The secretary was instructed to write to Mr Seville, thanking him J'or liis report on third grade foothall and that the union would assist in. the matter erf expenses in connection with the Gisborne trip.

On the motion of Mr Howard it was decided to make a grant towards tile cost of entertaining the Gisborne team on the T3tb. August. Mr Hickeyi moved that the Apanui. Sub-Union be written to objecting to Mr Williams’ behaviour in threatening the referee when asked to leave the field, and to draw attention to the behaviour of .the line umpire, who, owing to his objectionable language, had to lie relieved of Ins duties during the match, and to leave them t<> take steps they think fit. in this matter. Seconded by Mr B. Black and! carried.
