GENERAL ELECTIONS
THE LABOUR " CAMPAIGN ORGANISER. APPOINTED ■ Mr T. G. Johnson, hon. SecretaryTreasurer of the Bay of Plenty Labour Campaign Committee, has issued the td lowing , statement: — , The campaign wasi advanced a still further stage this week when Mr G. B. A. Whiting of Waipirp Bay was appointed organiser of the East Coast and Poverty Bay , portions of the electorate. Mr Whiting, who will commence work immediately, is to. give his full-time services in an honorary capacity to the committee until the general election, and. will carry out thei major portion of liis organising work in the Waiapu, Uawa,' and Waikohu Counties. Well known and widely respected, his association with the Labour Party extends over many years, in 1911 he was the official. Labour candidate for the Christ-; church South seat, and when the 1. C. and A. Act first came into operation Mr Whiting was appointed to the Canterbury Board of Conciliation, and held, the position until the boards were abolished and Conciliation Commissioners appointed. He wag a member of the S prey don Borough Council (South Island) for a number of years, and Mayor of the borough for two terms. In 1915 Mr Whiting entered' the employ of the N.Z. Government, and 1 was appointed inspector of factories and of footwear, a position, he held until 1930 when he retired. <At the 1931 General Election; lie was chairman and organiser for Mr D. W. Coleman in the Gisborne electorate. Recognised as an organiser of exceptional ability, Mf Whiting’s contribution to the Bay of Plenty campaign is expected to assist substantially in securing the re-election of the present member, Mr A. G. Hultquist.
