Alter a brief stay at Auckland they came to Opotiki. Mr Abbot was a wellknown bridge builder, having erected, wooden bridges in various parts et the North island. The first 'bridge over the Waioeka River, built in conjunction with long embankments, was built by him, and some of the old site is still visible. When the present Waioeka bridge was opened by the late Air K. S. Williams, Airs Abbot was accorded the honour of cutting the ribbon. Airs Abbot is survived by an aduit. family comprising six daughters and two sons. All of them were present at the time of Airs Abbot’s death, with the exception of Air S. D. Abbot and Airs J. T. Clark, who are engaged in an island cruise. There are 25 grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren. During the last 59 years Airs Abbot resided continuously in her home in beautiful surroundings, at the eastern end of the Waioeka bridge. The funeral, which took place on Monday afternoon was very largely attended, about sixty cars following, the remains to the cemetery. The service was' conducted' by the Rev. A. C. Hampton. The numerous and beautiful wreaths gave evidence of the esteem in which the deceased was held in the. district. The pall-heaieis were six grandsons of the late Airs Abbot, namely, Messrs Henry Bell, Gilbert Fox, Daryl Clark, Thomas Clark, Donald Abbot and Malcolm Clark.
