OPOTIKI MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the above institute was held on Saturday evening. After the singing of the Institute Song, and the reading of the Creed by the president. Mrs Fisher, the chair was vacated and was taken by Mrs McCallion, president of Otara Institute, the members of which supplied the programme for the evening. “How do we react when annoyed” was the roll call, and brought forth some amusing replies. Mrs Clem. Black gave a most interesting talk on “Tire Life of Mozart.” Mesdames Van stone Black and
Van stone, Black and Brown were heard to advantage in their part singing of the songs “Juanita”, “Drink to me only with Thine Eyes” and “The'old Rustic Bridge”. They were accompanied by Miss Ruth Vanstone. An amusing mime was then staged featuring a railway trip from Motu to Taneatua. .
With Mas Thompson, Mrs Vanstone and Miss Sydenham as conductors, three choirs were entered for competition. Mrs Black kindly acted as judge, and awarded first prize to -Mrs Thompson’s choir, second to Mrs Vanstone’s, and third to Miss Sydenham’s. Two other competitions were held. Mrs Fox being • the. winner of one. and Mr s Short the other. The worked apron competition was won by Mrs Miller, who also secured second prize. In the shoulder spray competition Mrs Beattie secured first place, and Miss Bridge second. The hostesses for the evening were Mesdames Thompson, Cooper and Pain.
