MAIZE WEEDING MACHINE
GISBORNE INVENTION TIME AND LABOUR SAVING A simple yet ingenious invention has been patented by a Gisborne farmer, Mr A. Paulson, for the purpose of reducing the cost of .weeding maize crops. It comprises a. number of flexible tynes protruding down from the main bar. Unlike the tyne harrow, the implement is not dragged over the ground, but operates on wheels. The tynes vibrate as they tear the ground, and rip the weeds out as effectively as by a hoe. An acre a day 7 can ,be weeded in this fashion, making the operation much cheaper and quicker than by hand-hoe, and it is claimed that ho damage is done to the crops.
