Thciupson, who ha,s been spending a holiday in Auckland, will attend the wedding of her niece at Paerea on .Saturday, before returning to Opotiki. WOODLANDS SOCIAL EVENING
-Mr and Mrs C. W. Reid and family were guests or honour at a happy , social evening in the Woodlands ilall on Wednesday night. The function was arranged by the many friends ct Mr and Mrs Reid, particularly tliooe from". Hospital Hill, Paerata Ridge, Waioeka and Woodlands, as a farewell prior to their Jeaving “Amokura”> station. Woodlands, where they have lived for some years.
A happy evening was spent in dancing to music supplied by Mr Man nix, wvitii a popular extra by Mrs Mannix. *M’r A. Stavely ably carried out the duties of M.C. Novelty dances were won by Mrs Pilkington and Mr.Pilkington jnnr. Miss L. Powell and blaster M. Hoi lard, bliss Daphne Woodside and blaster Arnold Y\ ocdside.
A very dainty supper was served, after which Mr J. Barbour, on behalf of those present; presented gifts to the guests-,of honour. Mrs Reid was the recipient of a handsome crystal salad bowl, Miss Bertha Reid received a dainty manicure set. while Mr Reid received a useful leather encased toilet set. Mr Barbour extended the best wishes of all present to the guests of honour, and wished them continued health and happiness.
Mr Reid suitably replied and all joined in singing ‘‘For They are Jolly Good Follows.”
The evening, was concluded with the singing of “iAuld Lung Syno.”

A POP PL Alt FUXCT LON Another of the series of popular dances organised by the social committee of St. Mary s Church, was held in the Lyric Hali on Wednesday night. The success of these functions is al-
ways assured, each one proving more popular than the previous one, and all being well attended. A popular programme ol’ music was supplied by the Melody Masters’; Orchestra,. with nil extra played by Miss K. Jophson. Tile bright decorations were .tided to by the distribution of colourful streamers, and confetti.. Mr T. Hickey capably carried out the <,Tuties of MX. Mrs L' .Quirk was announced as’ the winner' of a competition - and novelty dances Were won by Miss L. Peoples and "Mr T. - .(McDonald and Miss K. Alders aiid Mr T. Hennessy. W AIM A N A CARD EVENING The second of a series of weekly card evenings arranged by the ladies’ committee of the National Party, was
held, at the residence of. Mr A. P. Wylde. A most -enjoyable evening was. spent in playing flag 500, the winning players being Mrs J. Mitchell, Mrs Gray, Mr Wylde and Mr F. Mitchell.' The ladies of the committee who arranged tables were: Mrs Savage, Mrs C, P. Wylde, Mrs Curham, Mrs Mitchell and Mrs Jerram. Mrs F. J. Savage, president of the ladies’ committee, thanked all f°r coming and for giving their support, and proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Wylde for the enjoyable evening-and the use of their home. TANIEATUA BEBEKAH LODGE Dorothy Rebekah Lodge, Taneatua, held its " usual fortnightly meeting, when there was a. full attendance and one new member. A series of competitions arranged by Sisters Ducker and Lines was won by Sister Wylde, Sisters Bennett and Butler tied for second place. Other prixes were won bv Sister Martin and Br.o. Wylde.
