He was violently nudged by his wife in the small hours of the morning. “Someone’s coming up the stairs,” she whispered. “What’s the-.time?” he asked, still mom than lialf-asloep. “Two o’clock,’’ replied the wife. “Go to sleep again,” lie murmured drowsily, “it’s all right, It’ll be me.”
