OTARA The regular monthly meeting of the Otara Women’s Institute was held in the Otara Hall on Tuesday. Mrs AlcCallion presided and welcomed a new member and several visitors. The Institute Song and Women’s Creed were followed by a short business session. The Roll Call was “Recollections of Early Country Life”, and proved very entertaining. A Golden Thread item of early Opotiki history was interestingly given by Airs K. Brown. Mrs Hamptqtn of Opotiki, kindly attended and spoke in impressive yet humorous manner of “Human Relationships”, and referred to the good , things contained in Dale Carnegie’s bock on the subject. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the sneaker. Afternoon tea was provided and served by Aiesdames .Bingham, C. Black, Earp and Aliss Butler, and then followed a novel mime “Clementina”, Airs C. Black being soloist with Airs Hampton at the piano. The participants were Airs Bingham, Airs Brown, Airs Jones and Aliss Brown. Continued laughter prevailed throughout- the item. In the set competitions Airs O. Black was first for apple jelly, with Aliss Lambert second; and for chrysanthemums Airs Earp was first, with Airs Forbes second. Alenticn was made of a carload of members travelling last week to be entertained in happy manner by Te Kaha Institute members ut a birthday party. The day was fine but the road not very good and the return was achieved at 9 p.m. An Institute dance is to be held ip Otara Hall on 18th. Alay, when the committee will provide the supper. In closing, the president gave general thanks to those responsible for a happy and interesting meeting and special thanks to those helping in any way with the production of the sketches iu the recent Drama Festival and also to those who helped M'ith the competitive court at t ho chrysanthemum show.
TE KAHA The Te Kaha Women’s Institute celebrated their fourth birthday on Saturday last. There was a good attendance of members and local friends and several members of the Otara Institute- were present. The meeting opened with the singing of the Institute Song in Alacri, and the president, Airs Pratt, then cordially welcomed the visitors. A most interesting and enjoyable programme was presented, consisting of hakas, songs and recitations by the members, and recitations, solos and folk dancing by the children. Airs Hoi gave great pleasure with two pianoforte solos. Two competitions arranged by Airs Forbes were very popular, and Airs Olem Black, accompanied by Airs Hei, delighted all with two songs.
After a sumptuous tea, the president. cut the beautiful birthday cake, which had been made by a member. The singing of the National Anthem brought a happy and enjoyable meeting to a close. • ,
