FRIENDLY SOCIETIES’ COUNCIL

FOURTH ANNUAL MEETING Nineteen delegates attended the fourth annual meeting or the United Friendly Societies’ Council held at Alatata last Friday. The treasurer’s report showed a credit of £1 6s 6d to carry forward, and it was decided to reduce the annual affiliation fee to 10s to ledges ol ever 25 members and 5s to lodges with under 25 'members. The officers elected for the new year

were: — President, Bro. AY. Bowman, A.O. F., Te Puke. Vice-presidents, Bro. G. Ward, !.0. 0.F., Te Puke and Bro. Cutler, M.U. 1.0.0. F.. Taneatua. Secretary and treasurer, Bro. C. P. Wyido, 1.0.0. F., Taneatua. Immediate past president, E. Sworn U.A.0.D., Te Puke. ANNUAL REPORT The following report was presented by the retiring president, Bro. E. Sworn : During the past year we can unfortunately report very little of moment a.s owing to the proposed legislation for National Health Insurance and Superannuation, the Friendly Societies havo been unable to. reopen negotiations with the Tauranga Hospital'Beard which has been one of the principal aims of this Conned. As regards the social activities of the W.F.S., the' lodges in the Te Puke District have been working together for the past year and numerous successful functions have been held, notably the entertainment by each• society of all other Societies in the district and a number of combined dances.

We have naturally taken great interest in the proposals for National Health Insurance and although the outline given by the Prime Minister would appear to sound the death knell of the F.S. movement, we feel that if the societies will take advantage of all their schemes at their command there is AH'' why they should not flourish and to exert a influence for good as thov have &one in the past.
