TWENTY YEARS’ SERVICE

CHAIRMAN HONOURED A very pleasant afternoon was arranged by the Waiotahi School Committee in the Waiotahi Hall on May 3rd., the occasion being the completion of. HO years’ service as secretary and chairman of the Waiotahi School Committee by Mr. A. F. Ran. Mr F. K." Grant, the headmaster, spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Rau’s great work for school and district in the past years. Mr J. J. Moody, who was first chairman of the committee, spokte of his associations with Mr Rau in the early days of the school. Mr J. M. Scott spoke on behalf cf the last committee and regretted Mjr Rail’s resignation.

A Victorian posy of autumn flowers was presented tp Mrs Rau by Nancy Jesscp.

Mrs L. A". Looney, present chairman of the school committee asked Mr Rau to accept a handsome chiming clock as a token of esteem from parents and friends of the district. Mr Ran in reply spoke to the children as his great friends and asked them to live up to their school motto, “Our Best Always.” Mr Rau, in expressing his thanks said lie could not have accomplished so much without the assistance of fellow, members of the committee and. friends. A feature of the programme was the piano-accordian solos rendered by Mr G. J. Fleming, of Matamata, which were heartily applauded. The following items were given during the afternoon: —Pianoforte solos by Doris Looney and Diana Anderson. .Recitations by Daphne Reeves and Rati Kerb Dialogues by Queenie Te Rupe and Mfeite Amo Amo. “bp the Hill”, bv. Alwvn Clayton and .Betty Wyllie. Folk Dances by seniors, juniors and tiny tots. Songs by Misses M. rind B. Du Rontet, .Joan and Nancy Jessop, Joyce Looney. Trios by Betty Black, Joyce Looney and Hara Amo Amo, singing, “Three Grey Geese”. Doris Looney, Diana. Andersen and Mary Rau singing, “When 1 Grow too Old to Dream.” Lemon Kohiti, Rangii Te Rupe and Ena Hei Hei sang Maori songs. Miss Jurd and Mrs R. Looney played the accompaniments. A competition for tearing a cow out of a piece of paper was judged by Mr J. J- Moody and Mr L. Looney, arid was won by 'Mrs G. E. Watson with Miss M. Sole second. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies and concluded a happy afternoon.
