MECHANISED MORTARS
LATEST WAR WEAPONS EiD Gib WOOD ARSENAL, old. Feb. 19.—Two newlv-developed machines that can travel at a fast clip across country witii mortars primed to fling a deadly projectile into enemy ranks are among the latest additions to the weapon cl the chemical warfare service. Experimntal models of the machines were exhibited in action yesterday at the annual demonstration of the service. Both were developed especially for carrvino- 4.2 in. mortars for service with mechanised cavalry and chemical troops. One is a six-wheeled truck, with convertible tractor treads, that- carries a swivel-mounted mortar which can he fired over the truck or dismounted to the ground. The other, a tractortruck that can go as fast as 30 miles an hour, carries a fixed mortar that fires from a position between gunner and driver.
