FLOWER SHOW

HELD BY SUNSHINE LEAGUE MANY EXCELLENT BLOOMS The annual autumn, flower show, under the auspices of the Hospital-Sun-sine League, ; W'Was in the Lyric Hall on in view of the unfavourable weather which was experienced for some time prior to the show, the general display of blooms was excellent, although, as might have been expected, the number of entries did not in any way come up to those of previous years. A feature of the function was tho Women’s Institute Courts, the exhibits in which were a credit to the members of the various Institutes of the •district. The courts occupied the four corners of the hall and made a wonderful display which greatly added to the success of the function. Great credit is due to the ladies of the Hospital Sunshine League for the splendid efforts they , made to ensure the; success of the function, in spite of the discouraging weather conditions which brings so many trials on such an occasion.

The Mayor, Mr G. S. Moody, before declaring the show open, congratulated the members of the Sunshine League on the wonderful display cf blooms and commended them for the excellent work they had done and are still doing l for the hospital. Mr Moody expressed the hope that the function would be successful and repay the ladies for their untiring efforts to ensure its success. He apologised on Mr Short’s behalf, for bis absence. Mr. Moody then called upon Miss Mona Reece to receive the cup for the Champion Chrysanthemum bloom. He remarked that this was the fourth year in succession in, which BlSss Reece had received t-lie cup and he congratulated her on her success and thanked lier for the interest she displayed in the show. . r J lie cup, which was presented by Mr Mioody tor annual competition, is accompanied by a miniature which the successful exhibitor retains.
