A very pleasant gift evening was held at the home of Mrs Percy Looney, Waiotahi, last Wednesday. The guest ot honour was Miss Gladys Carruthers of Opotiki. Miss Carruthers is being married shortly. The evening was spent at dancing, competitions and tiag 500. All present spent a most happy time. The dance music was played by Mrs M. King, and Miss M. Sole, and Miss Doris Looney kindly obliged with extras. The Monte Carlo waltz, was won by Mrs King and Mr X*. Looney. The musical parcel'-was won by Miss G. Carruthers. The winners of the cards were Mrs Ren lieu Looney, Mrs Du Poutet, Mr Toon and M r F Drury.

After a most delicious supper had been served by the hostess, Mrs L. Looney asked the guest of honour to accept the many and beautiful gifts from all present, which showed the esteem in which she was held by her friends. Mrs Looney also wished the guest a very happy future. Mr. Len. Carruthers. on behalf of his sister, thanked all for the gifts and also Mr and Mrs Looney for the most pleasant evening. Dancing continued till the early hours of Thursday morning, when all joined in singing “Au Id Lang Syne”, and the National Anthem. Among these present were; Mr and Mrs P. G. Looney, -Mrs J. Looney. DOC TRIAL DANCE The annual dance arranged by the committee of the Bay *of Plenty Sheep Dog Trial Club, was Held in the Waioeka Hall on Friday night. As in previous years there was an exceptionally large attendance, the function bring regarded as one of the brightest dances of the season. 'The attendance included many visitors from the surrounding districts and a particularly happy time was spent by all. Excellent music was provided by the popular Kit Kat Orchestra. -M;r J.
