EASTER B.C. TAMP
rCATHERINC AT OHOPE The Easter Camp of the Bay ui Plenty Presbyterian Bible Classes was again held at Oliope Beach this year. Over a hundred young people were accommodated in ; the sleeping houses and tents on the two sites owned by the district committee and vested in the New .Zealand church property trustees. The president was Mr G. Sant on, ®f‘Taneatua jtthe camp father, the Rev. G.; J. Watson, and the visiting speaker,’the Rev. John G. Laughton, superintendent of Maori Missions for the Dominion. An outstanding event of this annual camp (the ninth in unbroken succession) was the visit of the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand (the Right, Rev. W. H. Howes). He spent Easter Monday at Oliope. and in the morning addressed an attentive audience which filled the large marquee. The study circles where members gathered in small groups under individual leaders were as. ever the background of the Bible study which takes first place in the programme of all round activity for . the campers. This year the studies were prepared by the Rev. J S. .Murray, M.A., of Wellington, and his clear presentation of the meaning 0 f the events concerning the death and resurrection of Our Lord was of great help to those who were privileged to make use of his study book. The studies were expounded by Mr Laughton in his addresses to leaders and the message eloquently and simply presented in the. mass meetings in the evening. The Friday communion service was conducted by the Rev. A. C, Hampton of Opotiki and on Sunday morning Divine Service was taken by the llev. James Stewart of Tanoatua. The sports meeting .on Saturday aft-
ernoon was under the gontrbl bf Mr G. B. Murray. After keenly contested e.vents, Opotiki secured; the points lead and so' holds the banner for the third: year in succession. On the same evening the concert, was held. TjhvT will long” be remembered as a uhiqifee| sue- ' cods among camp concerts and was hugely'enjoyed by the audience which ; packed the marquee. Following the concert the president carried. o,ut the y roll call, it being revealed that the campers were representative of all parts of the Bay of Plenty with a scattering of delegates from further afield. Generous donations of eatables from friends connected with the churches in all .parts'of the district proved of great help in the commissariat department and with Mrs Petty’s assistance the fine standard of meals was again maintained. , - The importance of Ohope as an Easter camp . site and the widelyknown attractions'of this seaside resort- is occasioning inquiry as to its use for other church, purposes and the ; bodies concerned are considering the question of the advisability offerecting suitable buildings in the near future. The officers for the IP3S camp were: Registrar, Miss C. Schofield• ; camp secretary, Mr Allan Yeomfin-; youngwomen’s secretary, Miss Betty Maxwell; young women’s president. Miss Eleanor Murray; organist-, Mr K. •Grant; musical: director, Mr H. Dy Paterson; camp mother. Mi’s A. D. Horwell; catering convener, Mr W. J. Murray, with the chief executive officers already mentioned. .
