Lower Rabbit Board Rate.
The East Coast Babbit Board, at its monthly meeting, decided to strike a- lower rate for the ensuing year. The board’s rates are levied according to stock returns for the territory under its supervision, comprising all that land east of the Aloliaka River and a boundary line extending through Waikaremoana to the Bay oi Plenty coast. In lii.s report, the secretary, Air B. Edwards, stated, that over the past -seven or eight years the quantity of cattle in the district bad shown a marked • increase. AYherens the ca ttle population in 1930 was estimated at 460,000, the latest retain indicated a total of 550,000. Compared with the 1930 figures, the sheep population had increased slightly.
