OPOTIKI EASTER TOURNEY BETTER COMPETITION The Opotiki Golf Club’s Easter Tournament was played at the club’s links op Sunday and Monday. There was a good attendance ofi golfers, including many competitors from other clubs. The weather was very wet, on Sunday, morning, there being a, thunderstorm , biit the competitors played in the rain and got thoroughly soaked. Fine weather, prevailed in the afternoon and throughout Monday. At the conclusion of the tournament on .Monday evening, the. president of the Opotiki Club, Mr A. N. Davies, in art apropriate speech, complimented the greens committee on the condition of the course. He thanked visiting players for attending and taking part in the. competitions, stating that they had a better field this- Easter than in previous Easter tournaments. v Trophies Presented. The trophies won during the tournament were presented by Mrs Davies as follows: — Senior Championship, Mr AY. Turner (Napier). Runner-up, Mr S. Napier. ' 3 Intermediate Championship., Mr L. Stuart. Runner-up, Mr C. Morris. Junior Championship, Mr R- Henderson. Runner-up, Mr .Ouuunings. Group Handicap. Mr A. H. Hilford. Medal Round, Mr L- Stuart. First Stableford, Mr R. Henderson. Second Stableford, Mr E. tanner; Four-ball Best-ball Bogey, Messrs H. W. Gordon and, E. A. Bunkall. Senior Championship. The following qualified for the senior championship : G. Fox 82 A. G. Cradwick 84 F. Cullen ‘ 85 J. Harriman 87 L. Davies 87 . S. Napier 88 W. Turner . 88 L. 1). Duff 89 in the first round Davies defeated Fox, 2 up; Turner defeated Cullen, 1 up; Duff defeated Cradwick, 2 and 1. In the semi-final Turner defeated Davies, 4 and 2; Napier defeated Duff, 4 and 3. Turner in the final match defeated Napier, 6 and 5. Intermediate Championship. The following qualified for the intermediate championship:— Li. Stuart 82 W. Sharkey 92 M. Davies 92 M. Carroll 93 C. Morris 95 N. Do Lautour 99 ;A. N. Davies 199First round: Stuart » bye; A. N. Davies beat 31. Davies, 5 and 4; Carroll beat De Lautour, I up; Morris beat Sharkey, J and 2. In the semifinal Stuart beat A. N. Davies, 5 and 4; Morris beat Carroll. 2 and 1. In the final match Stuart defeated Morris, 3 and 2. Junior Championship. The following qualified for the junior championship:— Ducker 91 J. Morgan 93 Cummings ; 95 R. Henderson 90 D. Clark 99 J. B. Birkmyer 99 A. -T. McKay 101 J. Lamer 102 In the first round Ducker defeated Clark, 1 up; Cummings beat McKay ; Henderson beat Larnier, 4 and ;3 ■ Morgan beat Birkmyer 9 and 8. In the semi-finals Cummings beat Ducker, 2 up; Henderson beat IMorgan, 1 up. In the final. Henderson boat. Guminings, 4 and % Croup Handicap. in the first round of this competition Powdrell beat Menges, 2 up; 31cIvor heat Wardlaw; 5 and 4; Ash beat Cowan, 7 and 5; Hilford beat Izzard, 3 and 1.
