ROD & CUN CLUB DISSATISFIED OPENING DAY FAVOURS BIG -V, . , . .MAN The fixing of the date for the opening of tiie shooting season for ALOII- - May 2. was the main subject of a general meeting of the Oputiki Rod and Gun Club held in Mr J. AVliitfiehl’s rooms last night. The president, Mr J. M eCaidon, who occupied the'chair, contended that it would be •i bad policy not to open the season during the week-end. By opening on the Monday a large percentage ol shooting men would be penalised, and the big man, who could take the time off whenever lie wished, would nave a clear week, before the worker could get a week-end. it was making shooting, too much a rich man’s .-port. meeting represented over lb J sportsmen in the Gpotiki district and flic president said that the unanimous opinoin’oi the club should carry a. lot of weight. Members • were ol the opinion that a large number of guns would be cracking on May 1, because a large number of sportsmen won id naturally! think the season .opened oil that date. A deputation consisting ol the president (Mr. J. McUaldon), the secretary (Mr. G. L. Day) and Mr R. Mcilwraitli was appointed to meet Mr Hultquist andi put the requests of the club be tore him. It was decided to ask that the season be opened on Saturday, April 30. ~A request that a ranger for the Shutheru Bay of Plenty area be appointed, will also be limoe to Mr Hultquist. Trout fry to be asked lor will bo as follows : \\ aioeka river,' 1,(00.000; Waimana, 750,000; Pakihi, 2-50,000; r J’e YVliaiti, 250,000; TaKanvaabi, 250,OCO. Pheasants to be asked for; -Hr. Waiker’s (closed area), TOO; Mr. Parkinson’s (closed area), 100; 200 to be placed on protected areas as follows: j. Clark, J. Armstrong. F. Jackson, W. Butler, M. Harrison. Black Bros., \Y.
