Wainui Deputation.

A deputation from the Wainui Settiers’ Association, consisting of Messrs White, Clements and Burke waited ,on the council with a request that repairs be made to roads. Mr White said that a man on the roads two days each week was not sufficient and asked that the man be put on full time. The water tables could not be kept open and more culverts were required on Clements’ Hill and those put in by the Public Works were not wide enough. The settlers were concerned about the cartage of cream in the spring. Mr Burke and Mr Clements’ supported Mr White. The chairman said that the Main Highways Board allotment had already been exceeded but assured the settlers, that they would not be blocked. Mr Upton stated that Mr Semple was not impressed with the road as a main highway and had said, he would not spend 6d on it. It was decided to make application for a further allotment for Clements’ road and ask the engineer to make a report on McClusky’s and Burke’s road. Tenders were received for me construction of the Waiotahi Valley bridge, the lowest being £467 16s 3d. The engineer stated that it was a steel joist bridge and! the lowest render was much higher than Ins estimate. The matter' was left in the hands of the engineer to have the work done. Members’ Business. Mr W. Butler drew attention to the bad state of Warrington’s road. Referred to the engineer. Mr Ppwell referred to the fact that the Borough Council was removing spoil from tlie Crooked Road! and an angle post belonging to Mr MbMillan had collapsed. Referred to the engineer for attention. Mr Butler suggested advertising that unfinancial ratepayers would not be entitled to vote at the forthcoming county elections. Members thought the scheme a good one. A request for metal on Looney Bros.’ road at Waiotahi was received.—Left to the engineer. A request that the grader be put 7m Gabriel Gully road to push the grass hack was also left to the engineer.
