FIRST WOMAN MAGISTRATE
INVITATION TO RESIGN ACCEPTED LON DUN, Jan. 20: Alis-s H. A. 11. Thompson, A1.8.E., aged S 3, appointed a magistrate 13 years ago, resigned from "Workington (Cumberland) Bench yesterday. She is the first woman to reply to the Lord Chancellor’s invitation to aged magistrates to resign. Ml* Tom Cape, ALP., read a letter from the Lord Chancellor expressing his appreciation of Miss Thompson’s strong sense of public duty in voluntarily resigning an office, the duties of which she found herself no longer able adequately to. perform.
