' "'•Mi- 1 ’• —~ * - -As a result of inquiries made by the Opotiki police, Constables Beasley and Cooper arrested a young Maori at Opape on Monday night, in connection. * with the removal of Mr. M. Vanstone’s car from the street on Saturday night. At the Opotiki Police Court yesterday morning, before Messrs. G. Ripe and F. J. Short J.P’s., Sydney Rewiti, aged 17i years, was charged that on March 12, at Opotiki, lie did unlaw- • fully take and convert to. his qwn use but so a s not to be guilty of tliett thereof within the ' meaning ~ of the ’ Crimes Act, 1908, motor-car valued at £IOO the ‘property cf Martyn Vanstone. Constable Beasley, who prosecuted,, said that Rewiti was responsible for nearly all the unlawful conversions of cars in Opotiki recently and was themain offender. He asked that theaccused be remanded to appear before the Gisborne Magistrate’s Court today (Wednesday). Tlie remand was- | granted. Rewiti will face several othercharges.
