CLAY-BIRD SHOOT
KEEN COMPETITION SUCCESSFUL DAY, , The Opotiki Hod and Gun Chib held a successful clay-bird shoot on the property of its patron, Mr. G. S. Moody, yesterday. Bright sunshine and practically no wind, made conditions ideal, with the result that some excellent shooting was seen. The following were the results: — Y Eye-Opener Handicap (G birds;, 14 entries. 31. Ross (14 yds.), Jack Ross (14: yds.) and Jim Ross U- yds.) shot the possible and divided the stake.
Maiden Sweepstake and G. L. Day’s Trophy .(5 birds), G entries. —A\ alter Burton and P. Kerehona secured 4 birds each, Kerehona* winning the trophy in the shoot-olf on the eleventh bird.
C.A.C. Trophy and Sweepstake Handicap >8 birds), 13 entries. Walter Semmens (.16 yds.) and J. McCaldon (13 yds), each shot the possible dividing first money. 3lcCaldo;i won the trophy on the slioot-off on the eleventh bird. Norman Semmens (12 yds.), M. Ross (15 yds.), Frank Young (14 yds.) and A. Kintey (13 yds.), each secured 7 birds and. divided second money.
£lO Handicap Sweepstake, 12 birds. —This was the big shoot of the day and attracted 11. entries. Jack Young (14 yds.), Walter Semmens (17 yds.), Jim Ross (13 yds."), J. 31cCaldon (14 yds:) and A. Kinlev (13 yds.), each secured 10 birds and divided the sweepstake. Frank Young il4 yds.), M. Ross (15 yds.), R. 31cllwraith (9 yds.). P. Kerehona (11 yds.), each secucrd 9 birds. ,
“Birds On” Handicap for Trophy presented by Mr. T. .Black, Otara, 10 birds. —Fifteen competitors took part in this shoot, six securing the possible with their handicaps, and divided the money. .W. Semmens (scr) won the trophy on the shoot-off on the twelfth bird, while Jack Bess dropped out after the eleventh bird. Those dividing the stakes were: Jack Ross >1), 31. Ross (1), I- Ross (3), G. Appleton (4), W. Semmens (scr.). P. Kerehona (-)■
Double-Rise Handicap (5 pairs) 7 entries. —Jack Young (15 yds.). 3L. Ross (1.5 yds.). AY. Semmens (18 yds.), Jack Ross (15 yds), each secured 7 birds and divided the stake. A. Kinlev (14 yds.) secured G birds. Gim Crack Handicap, (6 birds).— In fids competition the competitors started oil tlieir handicap mark and moved back two yards each time a bird was secured. Jack Ross (132;> yds) secured the possible six birds and was first. Five birds were secured fiy J. 31,cUaldon (13-23 yds). N. Semmens (10-20 yds.), AY. Semmens (15-25 • yds.), and A. Kinlev (12-22 yds.) and they divided second money.
