BAY Of plenty championship MATCHES AT WHAKATANE' SINGLES WON BY ROTORUA In splendid weather and with wellconditioned greens the. Bay of: Plenty Bowling Centre held' its champion of champions and executive fours matches at. Whakatana cn Saturday. All affiliated clubs were represented both in singles and rink play, and there was a 'fair gallery of spectators. Arrangements for the matches were carried oil t by the Centre secretary, and afternoon tea arrangements were supervised by local ladies. Play, which started at 9.30 a.m\ and continued; till nearly 7 p.m.. was generally of n high standard and some very even contests were witnessed. Y\. A. Knaggs, of the Rotorua Club, was in excellent form and did well to car-
ry off the championship with a clear run of seven wins. ’YYhakatanes champion, A.. Burgess, .was runner-up with one loss, while G. C. Peebles, of Taneatua, was next with two losses. The executive fours was played in. two sections. .Two rinks tied for first place in section, A.., and three teams • secured equal points in section 8., necessitating four play-off gam&s to finalise the competition, which was eventually won by Tauranga. In the play off in section A, Tanranga South beat Rotorua, while in section B Tauranga drew ai bye; Whakatane beat Te Puke and Tauranga defeated* YVliakatane. The final resulted: in Tauranga defeating Tauranga South.
