H. Afahoney, of Gisborne imd her small son, Brian, arrived in Opotiki on Saturday. They will spend an extensive holiday in Opotiki as the guests of Mrs Malioney’s mother, Mrs F. Holloway, Hospital Hill. ■A* 7r 41- -K- * ■3*‘ ■s* Mrs T. G. Johnson returned from Te Aroha on Saturday after competing in the • Croquet Championships held there last- week. Mrs. Johnson was runner up in the B section, won three singles and was runner-up for the lb Championship, for which she gained a trophy. In the doubles she won two matches and lost two.
Air and Mrs F. J. McLaughlin, of Hokianga district are recent arrivals in Opotiki. Mr. McLaughlin is the newly.-- appointed headmaster of the Oiiiarumutu Native School, where liis duties have commenced. _ * * * * x- * » Recent visitors to Opotiki were Mr and! Mrs G. Alauglian, of Master-' ton. Mn Mauglian, who is a Romfiey breeder, was very interested in the farming activities in the district. He 'was conducted on an extensive survey around, the- district and was greatly impressed' with the abundant pastures. He was amazed at the paspalum growth in Opotiki, and, in conversation with Mr F. W.- Reid, stated that lie had experimented with growing paspalum in his district and had; met with only average results. After viewing the pastures at Mr Reid’s property, lie had a most interesting conversation with him on the subject. WAIOTAHI SCHOOL COMMITTEE lON JOY ABLE! DANCE The Waiotahi Hall was the scene of an enjoyable and successful dance on Friday night, the, function being arranged and conducted by the members of the Waiotahi School Committee. There was a large attendance of dancers, excellent music being supplied by. the Kit Kat Orchestra with ■popular extras by Messrs C. Carruthers and R. Parlies. The duties of M. C. - were ably carried out by Mr. Ran. Novelty dances were won by Airs. MacKinnon and Air Alorgan and Miss Doran and partner. ■ A dainty supper was served and dancing was continued until the early hours.
