The total rainfall for the month of February as registered in the Opotiki borough was 13.57 inches, compared wijth only .81 inches for the corresponding month Jqst- year. Waioeka Road Blocked. ■Blastingoperations on the Waioeka road three-quarters of a mile past Mr Hamilton’s, brought, down a large slip this afternoon. The, slip will take 24 hours to clear and the road will be blocked for that period. Territorial Mock-Battle. Teritorials. both infantry and Rifles took part in a mockbattle on Messrs Black Bros, property,* Otara, yesterday. The manoeuvres which were under control of Lieut. J. Mac Kay and Sergt.-Major Patterson, of Rotorua, were most realistic, hall cartridges being used in the machineguns. Capt. C. D. Brown is at present attending a camp at Narrow Neck. Weather Forecast. The following forecast was issued to-day: The indications are for mod erato northerly winds and freshening. There is a prospect of fair to cloudy weather. Barometer unsteady. Seas smooth to moderate. Athlete’s New Position. Mr. .Graham Quinn, the Gisborne athlete who took part in the Empire Games, has received a position with the State Advances Corporation, Wellington. and began his new duties last week. Karoro Over Opotiki. Considerable interest. was shown in the passage of a big ’plane over Opotiki early on Saturday morning. Despite the overcast conditions a good view was obtained of the ’plane as it travelled directly over the town and after reaching the coast-line travelled along the, Bay towards Auckland. The ’plane was the 4-engined express air liner Karoro. of the Fnion Airways. Instead of taking the usual course via Taranaki, the ’plane was flown up the East Coast for a change from the usual route. The Karoro landed at Gisborne on Friday afternoon and attracted considerable interest there, being tin* largest ’plane, to have landed at Gisborne. The air-liner has accommodation for 12 passengers. On Saturday afternoon the Karoro participated in the lug air pageant, held at Auckland.
