The 1 list of Successful candidates m the Diocesan Sunday School examination has just be.n published m the Chutqh News,- anu it gives the gratifying intelligence that the three scholars who were sent up from St James' Church Sunday School have all passed. The examination is conducted m two Standards, known as V. and VI., the latter being the higher one. It Wais for Standard VI. that the scholars from Oust were presented ; only four candidates m all the Diocese succeeded m passing this, and two of these were Mary Cryseli and Elizabeth Osborne, of Oust. The list of those who took Honors comprises, like the Pass list, only four names, and of these Mary Searles, of Oust, is one. She also receives . special commendation from both examiners, her work being desoribed as «« exceptionally good." . This must be very encouraging to the teaohers m the Sunday School at Cust, and affords tangible evidence that good work is being done by them. We

understand, by the way, that all the teachers m this S.hool presented thomselve-laat year for exntnination with a view to receiving the Diocesan certificate (Junior Grade) and all passed with Honors. On Friday, 30th ultimo, a meeting was held m the Institute Hall, to consider the question of forming a Lawn Tennis Club. Mr A Searel!, who had convened the meeting, took the chair, and the following gentlemen were appointed a preliminary organising committee to carry out the project :— l? ess.s Blaok, Cooper, G. Oromie. G.,and F. Ruddenklau. Searell, and Whito.* From th.-se Original members of the proposed Club a subcommittee of three was selected, to report to a full meetiug on Thursday, September sth, on the following pointß : - The probable number of members for the season, the best kind of court, the cost of preparing it, and the .possibility of obtaining a piece of ground from the Cuoket Olub. It is understood that some thirty persons are likely to join the Lawn Tennis Cub, and thi. is certainly a most encouraging start.
