To-day being Empire Day, it is being observed as a school holiday.

Notice is given that the Puke ferry will be closed for repairs from two o'clock on Friday afternoon until Saturday evening.

A clearing sale of stock of good quality will be held at Hikutaia tomorrow by the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company.

Mr C. A. Taylor, the well-known Karangahake plumber, has opened a branch in Paeroa next to Messrs Porntt arid Mueller's office. Mr Taylor notifies that he is prepared to undertake all kinds of plumbing and tinsmithing work.

Members of the Ohinemuri Agricultural and Horticultural Society should note that the annual meeting of the society will be held in the County Chambers, Paeroa, on Wednesday evening, 31st inst., at half-past seven o'clock. The chief business will be to receive the annual report and • balancesheet, and to elect officers for the ensuing year.

To-morrow being the Feast of the Ascension will be observed by special services at St. Paul's Church. The Blessed Sacrament will be celebrated "at seven ;in, the morning, and choral Evensong sung at 7.30 p.m. Ascension Day is the day appointed for the Cor■porale Communion of the Church ot England Men's Society, and the members of the local branch will to-morrow ' morning join with many thousands of other meAiibers of this great society, in almost every part of the civilised world, in ofiering this highest act of Christian worship.

There was a good attendance at the quarterly meeting of the Star of Paeroa Lodge of Druids on Monday evening, Bro. F. Ott, A.D., presiding. Amongst the visitors were Bro. F. Flatt (District President) and members ot the Auckland and Victoria Lodges. Nominations of officers for the ensuing half-year were received, and the election will take place next lodge night. A large amount of routine business was transacted, and an interesting address was delivered by the District President.
