THE CANTON REVOLT.
DISCONTENTED YOUTHS
[By Electric Telegraph.]
Brisbane, May 23,
A Chinese merchant, who has returned from China, states that the recent uprising was an attempt by two or three thousand youths and young men to overthrow the Manchu rule in the Canton provinces. They were well armed, but lacked organisation, and the trouble was soon quelled. Great surveillance is exercised over queueless persons, because 70 per cent of the revolutionaries are without that appendage.
